Union Plus Programs Help Union Members Impacted By Terrorist Attacks

Contents:
Union Plus

Union Plus was created by the AFL-CIO in 1986 to help unions recruit and retain members and to provide union members and their families with high-quality consumer benefits and services.

Each program is carefully researched and developed by a team of experts. They do all the homework and negotiate the best deals using the financial clout of the more than 13 million members represented by AFL-CIO unions. Through this affiliation, Union Privilege is able to offer benefits of much greater value and quality than members can generally get on their own. Because Union Privilege carefully monitors each program, members get prompt, courteous service and high-quality benefits -- as well as help in resolving any problems.

There are nine benefit programs available to CWA members.  These are:

Union Plus Education Loans:
College education and job skills training loans.

Union Plus Motor Club:
Peace of mind on the road with emergency road service and more.

Union Plus Health Savings:
Savings on prescriptions, vision care and more.

Union Plus Credit Card:
A union credit card with a low interest rate, no annual fee.

Union Plus Secured Union Credit Card:
A union credit card that helps establish or re-establish credit.

Union Plus Mortgage and Real Estate:
Buying, selling, refinancing made easier, more affordable.

Union Plus Legal Service:

CWA SAVINGS & RETIREMENT TRUST (CWA S&RT)

The CWA S&RT provides a menu of savings opportunities to members of bargaining units, local officers and representatives that experience significant lost time, and employees of locals. The Trust offers 401k options, with or without an employer match, employer profit sharing arrangements, and post-tax contributions. Participants can choose how they want their money invested and their account is portable in the event of a move onto another employer. We currently have over 4,000 participants, including members working for 40 employers and 20 CWA, NABET, TNG, and PPMW locals.

CWA NATIONAL HEALTH BENEFIT TRUST

We recently formed a new health trust to offer health insurance for our members. The Union Labor Life Insurance Company (ULLICO), along with Zenith Administrators will provide negotiators with competitive rates for presentation to prospective employers. Dental and life insurance is also available through the Trust. This is a totally new health trust and we look forward to have it become an integral part of our organizing and collective bargaining efforts.

CWA NATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING TRUST

This Trust coordinates our apprenticeship and employment center referral projects. Certification and training update programs will also be provided through the Trust. We recently opened our first center in Fremont, California; and we expect to open the Cleveland, Ohio center this fall. Other CWA training sites will be considered based on the interest of employers and local representatives, provided methods can be put in place to fund our efforts. We currently have approximately 150 apprentices working for US West, and about 40 working through a multi-employer arrangement in Northern California.
